Dredd is an American feature film of the science fiction and action genres. It is based on the Judge Dredd comic book franchise as originally published in the United Kingdom in the sci-fi anthology magazine 2000 AD. It was directed by Pete Travis with a script written by Alex Garland. It is the second feature film to spotlight the character of Joseph Dredd; the other being the 1995 movie version of Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone. Dredd adheres more closely to the spirit and mania of the comic books as its predecessor and is more favorably reviewed as a result. The movie was produced by DNA Films and released theatrically in the United States on September 21st, 2012.
Dredd stars Star Trek and Almost Human actor Karl Urban in the role of Judge Joseph Dredd - a street judge who take a violent and no-nonsense approach to law and order. Co-starring in the film is Olivia Thirlby as the telepathic Psi Judge, Cassandra Anderson. The main antagonist of the movie, is a drug queen-pin known as "Ma-Ma", who is disturbingly portrayed by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star Lena Headey.
