Dragonflies are a type of insect. They are not really dragons and they are barely flies, though they are big as all get-out. Dragonflies tend to appear in warmer climates such as wetland or tropical regions. Dragonflies are characterized by their big ole compound eyes and large transparent wings. Adult dragonflies live for about five weeks. Wikipedia states that they are predatory insects, but honesty, they're pretty easy to smoosh.
It is not uncommon to see dragonflies flittering about swampland areas such as the Man-Thing's swamp in the Florida Everglades. [1]
