Double Trouble is the fourth episode of Season 2 of the 1974-76 Shazam! Saturday morning TV series.
Synopsis[]
Phil Chartoff is about to open his gas station for business when a man who appears to be Captain Marvel shows up. Marvel demands Chartoff open his safe and give him all the money. The alleged Marvel then makes a getaway in a car with another criminal and unmasks himself to reveal he is an impostor.
Meanwhile, Billy Batson and Mentor are riding along when they spot a young boy named Kelly on an out-of-control horse. Billy becomes Captain Marvel and rescues the boy when the horse's owner, Mr. Frank, arrives and scolds Kelly for trespassing on his property to ride the horse. Mentor takes Kelly to his father, Sheriff Martin, and both explain to Kelly how important it is to respect the law. The sheriff, however, has a bigger problem on his hands: a warrant out for Captain Marvel's arrest from the gas station robbery earlier that day.
In light of showing Kelly the importance of respecting the law, Billy becomes Marvel and turns himself in to Sheriff Martin who in turn incarcerates him. Meanwhile, Kelly recalls seeing two men on Mr. Frank's property while he was riding the horse. Kelly and Mentor get permission from Mr. Frank to investigate and discover a cape similar to Marvel's and a mask of his face left near a shed the two criminals were using as a hideout.
Mentor and Kelly return to the sheriff's station to inform Marvel and the sheriff of their discovery. Sheriff Martin arrives and says he stopped to help two men in a green pickup stranded on the side of the road, but the men took his car keys and disabled his car, leaving him to have to walk for two hours back to the office. With the evidence Kelly has, Marvel is proven innocent and bends the bars of the sheriff's jail cell to let himself out (since the sheriff has no keys). Sheriff Martin notes the men were headed to Iverson's Mine, presumably to steal it's payroll, and Marvel sets out for them after restoring the bars of the cell.
Marvel catches up with the men and uses a rope on the back of their pickup to drag them back to town. Mentor, Kelly, and Sheriff Martin meet up and arrest the men. Kelly then thanks Mentor and Billy for showing him his lesson on respecting the law.
