"The End of the World" is the second episode of season one of the 2005 relaunch of the popular British television series Doctor. Including the canonical 1996 film, it is the 697th episode of the Doctor Who franchise overall. The episode was directed by Euros Lyn and written by executive producer Russell T. Davies. It first aired in the United States on Syfy on April 2nd, 2005.
Plot[]
In this episode, the Doctor brings his new Earth companion, Rose Tyler, on a journey through the TARDIS some 5,000,000,000 years into the future. They arrive at Platform One where they are to witness the final moments of Earth's existence as it is destroyed in the wake of a giant solar flare. The last remaining Earth human, Cassandra O'Brien, now nothing more than a face and voice releases a horde of metal spiders aboard the station.
