Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. The programme depicts the adventures of a mysterious alien time-traveller (called a Time Lord) known as "the Doctor" who travels in his time/spaceship, the TARDIS, which normally appears from the exterior to be a blue 1960s police call box. With his companions, he explores time and space whilst facing a variety of foes and righting wrongs.
Series one of Doctor Who aired on BBC One from November, 1963 to September, 1964, totaling forty-two episodes. The series comprises eight different storylines.
Series one of Doctor Who introduced all of the major characters, in particular, actor William Hartnell as the Doctor, who will become the first of many iterations to the persistently-regenerating character. Serving as Hartnell's companions in these early adventures are school teacher Barbara Wright, played by Jacqueline Hill, her colleague Ian Chesterton, played by William Russell and actress Carole Ann Ford in the role of the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman.
