Biography[]

Dinah Drake was an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was working undercover hunting a ring of Russian spies looking to steal atomic secrets. During the mission, she busted Larry Lance, who was also undercover working for the Gotham City Police Department. The spies got away, but Dinah and Larry found each other and were married soon after.
Larry Lance was murdered by an underworld figure named Otto Saunders, who had been under the payroll of the mayor's wife, Bianca Steeplechase. Dinah silently attended her husband's funeral, but decided that a more extreme course of action was required to bring Saunders down. She donned a blonde wig and a black leather costume and became a vigilante named the Black Canary.
Dinah teamed up with Larry's partner in the GCPD, Bruce Wayne, whom Dinah quickly sussed out was a disguised vigilante himself known as Batman. Black Canary and Batman worked to bust up Saunders' operations, which included distribution of a new street level drug called "Nicotics".
Infiltrating Otto Saunders' mob as a lounge singer, she kept the crime boss distracted while Batman rescued two hostages named Roy Harper and Hayley Fitzgerald. She stabbed Otto's bodyguard, Croc, in the shoulder with a stiletto after learning that he was the one who physically murdered her husband. She then flipped onto his shoulders and broke his neck. Miraculously, Croc survived and subsequently went to prison.
