History[]

Dewbend State Penitentiary was a state prison located off Appletree Road in the town of Five Keys, in the state of New Mexico. During the 1950s, New Mexico still had the Death Penalty, which was later abolished in 2009.

In 1953, 32-year-old Wayne Fisher was executed by electric chair for murdering a woman with a hammer in 1950. His last meal was a rib-eye steak. His last words were "Go to Hell". On the night that Wayne executed, the electric chair drew an abundance of power, which caused the lights in the surrounding neighborhood to flicker.

Gerald Rainier worked at Dewbend as a prison guard. His shift ended just prior to the Fisher execution. While sitting at home watching television, the lights in the house flickered and his young son, Christian Rainier commented to the air, "You're on the Hades Express, Mister!" His father admonished Christian's words, noting that death was never a cause to celebrate.
