The Deviants, also known as the Deviants of Lemuria, are a fictional race of creature featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are associated with the Eternals line of comics and first appeared in The Eternals #1 in July, 1976.

Description[]

The Deviants were one of three master races developed by a space-faring race of cosmic beings known as the Celestials. The Celestials took note of early primitive life forms on Earth, and decided to conduct their own experiments. Using the genetic stock of a prehistoric ape, they cultivated the races that would become the Eternals, Humans, and the Deviants. The Deviants were considered failures of this great experiment, and were a monstrous war-like race - forever at odds against humanity. The developed their own empire in the kingdom nation of Lemuria and always fought against their more perfected counterparts, the Eternals.

For thousands of years, the leader of the Deviants was a bloated reptilian creature known as Brother Tode. Along with his queen, Vira, he had his chief enforcer Kro enslave and subjugate humanity.

Deviant mutates

Thousands of years ago, the Deviants genetically experimented with their own kind to produce a race of giant monsters, each one bearing distinctive physical characteristics separate from one another. These mutations survived well into the modern era and some of them have been found living in the underground cave network dubbed Subterranea. Examples of these creatures include the scaly Giganto and the three-headed Tricephalous - both of whom have fought up against the Fantastic Four. [3]
