Denis was an elderly French man who lived in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the son of a vampire named Proinsias Cassidy and was born in 1946. (Preacher: Holes) Denis suffered from a respiratory condition and required the use of an inhaler. Cassidy had little involvement with Denis as he was growing up, and regretted that he never even took the time to learn French. In the late 2010s, the now-elderly Denis allowed Cassidy and his friends to stay at his apartment while they were in town in search of God. The Saint of Killers raided his home in search of Jesse Custer and was willing to kill Denis to get to him. Jesse however, succeeded in talking the Saint down.
