Dejah Thoris is a fictional warrior princess and one of the main characters featured in the Warlord of Mars multimedia franchise as first envisioned by author Edgar Rice Burroughs. She first appeared in the story A Princess of Mars, which was published in novel format in 1917.

Biography[]

Dejah Thoris is the love interest and later the wife of John Carter, an Earthman mystically transported to Mars, and subsequently the mother of their son Carthoris and daughter Tara. She plays the role of the conventional damsel in distress who must be rescued from various perils, but is also portrayed as a competent and capable adventurer in her own right, fully capable of defending herself and surviving on her own in the wastelands of Mars.

Personality[]

While no fighter, Dejah Thoris is no mere damsel in distress. She speaks eloquently and bravely for herself before the Tharks, is ready to sacrifice herself to save her city, and on at least one occasion saves John Carter's life. It is safe to assume her royal duties extend further than looking beautiful and being kidnapped.

She demonstrates her demeanor as an understanding wife by taking the assorted damsels who fall for John Carter under her wing and interesting them in the other fish in the sea. As Helium is an absolute magnet for adventurous young Red men it is the perfect place to hunt a husband.
