Deep Rising is an American independent feature film of the action, science fiction and horror genres with an emphasis on the "giant monster" storytelling trope. It was written and directed by Stephen Sommers. It was presented by Hollywood Pictures and produced by Calimari Productions and Cinergi Pictures Entertainment. It premiered theatrically in the United States on January 30th, 1998. The film revolves around a small transport crew who are hired by mercenaries to bring them across the South China Sea, only to be double-crossed as the mercenaries use Captain Finnegan and his crew to stage an attack against the pleasure cruise ship Argonautica. Trigger-happy mercs are the least that Captain Finnegan and his friends have to worry about however, as the Argonautica is simultaneously attacked from something below the waves. Something with... tentacles.
