The Death Star is a fictional battle station featured in the Star Wars film franchise. It was introduced in the original 1977 film Star Wars (later known as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope) and was one of the central settings as well as plot devices for the film. Hints at the Death Star's origins were briefly seen in the prequel trilogy as well. In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, a hologram of the Death Star can be seen on the planet Geonosis. The skeletal construction of the Death Star is also seen at the conclusion of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The origins of the Death Star were first expanded upon in "The Jedi Academy Trilogy" series of novels by Kevin J. Anderson. In addition, the Death Star was featured in the first six issues of the Marvel Comics Star Wars comic book series, which adapted the first film. A second Death Star was featured in the third and final film of the original trilogy, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
