David Langford is a fictional physician and a recurring character featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is associated with the "Midnight Sons" line of titles and first appeared in Morbius: The Living Vampire #1 in September, 1992.
Biography[]
David Langford was a scientist who was secretly in the employ of the mysterious Doctor Paine. He had acquired several unpublished papers by Michael Morbius relating to recombinant gene splicing. Langford labored under the pretense of using the papers as a means of finding a cure for Morbius' vampire-like condition, but in truth, he was actually developing a serum designed to kill him.
Langford was unaware that a demonic member of the Lilin known as Fang had broken into his laboratory and tainted his serum even further by injecting it with some of his own demon blood.
Morbius' former lover, Martine Bancroft, believing Langford to be a friend, brought Morbius to his lab after he had suffered a great injury. Langford administered his serum, confidant that it would kill Morbius, but the infusion of Lilin blood only mutated him. Morbius went into a spastic seizure, broke free of the bonds strapping him to the operating table and escaped.
Langford was later visited by Doctor Paine's henchmen. Langford desperately tried to his explain his failure, insisting that the serum should have killed Morbius. Martine Bancroft overheard the conversation. Outraged by his betrayal, she tried to shoot Langford, but David wrestled the gun from her and shot her.
Michael Morbius found Martine's bleeding body and took his revenge upon Langford. He tore through Doctor Paine's men and destroyed Langford's laboratory before tearing out Langford's throat with his fangs. [1]
