Biography[]
Darren Cross was a successful self-made millionaire and the founder of Cross Technological Enterprises (CTE). Cross suffered from a rare heart condition that threatened his life. He developed a nucleorganic pacemaker to save himself, but the device mutated his body, increasing his size and mass and turning his skin purple. He still suffered from a weak heart however and went through numerous heart transplants, deriving resources from unwilling donors culled from neighborhood slums. When even this tactic failed, Cross abducted scientist Doctor Erica Sondheim and brought her back to CTE to cure him. This incident earned him the attention of Scott Lang, who had only recently adopted the guise of the Ant-Man. Ant-Man likewise required Sondheim's expertise and went to the CTE corporate headquarters to rescue her. [1]
