Dark Shadows: Year One is an American comic book limited series of the horror and Gothic soap opera genres. It was published by Dynamite Entertainment and ran for six issues from April to September, 2013. The series was written by Marc Andreyko with artwork and inks by Guiu Vilanova. Coloring was by Josan Gonzalez and it was lettered by Troy Peteri. Cover art illustrations were rendered by Patrick Berkenkotter. The series was edited by Joseph Rybandt.
The origin of Dark Shadows is finally revealed! How did Barnabas Collins become a bloodthirsty vampire? What tragedies befell the Collins family through the generations? All it took was one night of weakness with a temptress named Angelique, and Barnabas cursed his entire family line ― and himself ― forever!

- Dark Shadows was created by executive producer and showrunner Dan Curtis. Major storylines were developed by writers Art Wallace and Sam Hall. The original daytime Gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows aired on ABC from June of 1966 to April of 1971 spanning a total of 1,245 episodes. Two spin-off films House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows were released in theaters in 1970 and 1971. A remake series of Dark Shadows was produced in 1991 and ran for thirteen episodes on NBC. In 2012, director Tim Burton crafted a comical reboot of Dark Shadows as a high-budget feature film.
