Episode 1128 is the untitled 1,128th episode of the daytime Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. The episode was directed by Lela Swift with a script written by Gordon Russell. It first aired on ABC on Wednesday, October 21st, 1970. This episode is part of "1840 Flashback" storyline. As if tension between Quentin and his wife Samantha weren't inflamed enough, things really heat up when Samantha tells him that Tad is not his son. Quentin must now keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't try leaving Collinsport with Tad.
Synopsis[]
In the drawing room at Collinwood, Samantha Drew Collins announces that she has made a decision as to which man she has committed her heart to. She asks to speak with Gerard Stiles privately, and Quentin leaves the room. Gerard is prepared for rejection, but is pleasantly surprised when Samantha chooses him. Gerard and she embrace and he tells her that he will meet her later at Rose Cottage.
After Samantha leaves to speak with Quentin, conniving Gabriel Collins wheels himself into the room. He throws a few pointed barbs Gerard's way and is absolutely tickled at the notion that Samantha has chosen to spend the rest of her life with him. Gerard gets angry and grows for Gabriel to leave. Gabriel reminds him that this is his house, not Gerard's, and emphasizes that it will never be his house.
Samantha goes up to Quentin's room to speak with him. She tells him that she has chosen to be with Gerard. Quentin understands, as he has not exactly been the easiest husband to live with. He wishes her the best, until Samantha reveals that she intends on taking their son Tad with her. Quentin has no intention of having Tad leave Collinwood and tells her that it is out of the question. Tempers rise as they argue until Samantha finally reveals that Tad is not actually Quentin's son. Quentin doesn't believe her and accuses her of making it up just to have a reason to take him away. Samantha insists that it is true, at which point Quentin flies into a rage. He pushes her down onto the bed, demanding to know who the real father is, but Samantha refuses to tell him. Quentin withdraws and warns that if she tries to take Tad away from him, he will kill her.
Samantha goes downstairs to the foyer and speaks with housekeeper Hortense Smiley. She pulls her into the drawing room and secretly instructs her to bring Tad's belongings to the front door at exactly 7:00 pm. Neither woman realizes that Gabriel is just outside the door eavesdropping. He then goes upstairs to tell Quentin what he has learned.
The grandfather clock in the foyer strikes 7:00 and Hortense brings Tad's bags to the front door. As she turns to ascend the staircase, she is met by Quentin. Quentin violently grabs Hortense by the arm and tells her that he is aware of his treacherous wife's scheme and that it will not work. He tells Hortense to pack her own bags, for she is no longer an employee of Collinwood.
Hortense leaves the house and walks through the forest. She comes upon something on the ground. It is the headless body of Judah Zachary. As she brushes some of the leaves aside, the body rises and strangles her.
