The Dark Knight Rises is an American feature film of the superhero fantasy genre. It is the third and final installment in "The Dark Knight Trilogy". The series is based on the character of Batman, as seen in comic book titles published by DC Comics. As with the previous two films, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, this movie was directed by Christopher Nolan and co-written by Nolan and David S. Goyer. It was produced by Warner Bros. and released theatrically in the United States on July 20th, 2012. The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and the audience finds Bruce Wayne now retired, nursing an injury he sustained during a previous altercation. He spends most of his days slumped in the Batcave, or matching financial wits with business rival John Daggett, who seeks to buy-out Wayne Enterprises. A Central American revolutionary calling himself Bane, comes to Gotham with the intent of laying waste to it, forcing Batman out of retirement.
