"The Gael" is the title to the 205th issue of the first Daredevil ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The story was written by Denny O'Neil with artwork by William Johnson and inks by Danny Bulanadi. It was colored by George Roussos and lettered by Joe Rosen. The story was edited by Bob Budiansky with Michael Higgins as assistant editor. This issue shipped with an April, 1984 cover date and carries a cover price of .60 cents per copy.

Plot[]

Glorianna O'Breen comes to America for the first time at the behest of her father, a perceived traitor to the Irish Republican Army. She calls upon her aunt, Deborah Harris for aid. An assassin known as The Gael - the man responsible for murdering Glorianna's father, abducts her and holds her hostage. Daredevil arrives and frees Glorianna and captures The Gael.

  • The tagline to this issue is "Night of the Gael!"
  • This is the first appearance of Glorianna O'Breen. She will soon become a regular supporting character in the series.
  • This issue is chock full of every Irish cultural stereotype one can think of including referring to a women as a "lass" and a "wee girl", and referring to Daredevil as "Boyo". The Gael leaves a paper shamrock with his victims as his calling card. The only thing missing is a pint of Guinness and a drunk Leprechaun.
