Biography[]
The man who would come to be known as Daniel Whitehall was originally named Werner Reinhardt. He was a high ranking member of the Nazi party during World War II and later became a member of the terorrist organization, Hydra, rising to the top of its ranks. Whitehall was captured by the Strategic Scientific Reserve in 1945 and spent forty-four years in prison. In 1989, a Hydra leader named Gideon Malick freed Whitehall and re-established his position in the group. Whitehall used DNA from an Inhuman named Jiaying to de-age himself so that he appeared as he did back in 1945.
As the head of Hydra, Daniel Whitehall became obsessed with the notion of people like Jiaying and their connection to a mysterious relic known as the Obelisk. The Obelisk possessed the ability to grant super-powers to select humans, while likewise proving fatal to others.
Whitehall's pursuit of the Obelisk in the modern era brought him into conflict with the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, during a time when they were at open war with Hydra. On the day that Whitehall would have discovered the true power of the Obelisk, he was shot in the back and killed by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson.
