It relates to the character of Peter Porker, aka Spider-Ham and first appeared in the Marvel Tails Starring Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham one-shot special published in November, 1983. It was also a provincial setting of the Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham ongoing comic book series.

The Daily Beagle is a metropolitan newspaper publication located in New York City, New York. It existed in an alternate reality populated by anthropomorphic talking animals dubbed Earth-8311.
The editor-in-chief of the Daily Beagle was J. Jonah Jackal. Among its staff were J. Jeremiah Jackal, Jr., Bunsen Bunny, Upton Adam Stray, and Peter Porker.
