The Crystal of Souls is a mystical item that is a large green gemstone encased within a strong piece of lattice work. It is thousands of years old and belonged to the immortal known as Centurious. Being without a soul himself, Centurious used the crystal to contain the entrapped souls of innocents. Over the span of centuries, it has collected 10 times 10,000 souls.
In the modern era, Centurious mentally dominated an elderly preacher named Ethan Domblue, who became the "eyes" for the Crystal of Souls. Based out of the Midwestern town of Holly, Centurious enslaved the town's population, encasing their spirits within the crystal, including that of Charlie Winslow - cousin to Roxanne Simpson. Centurious stole the soul of Johnny Blaze, separating it from that of his bonded demonic host, Zarathos, and trapped it within the crystal. Without Blaze's soul to give him balance, Zarathos was slowly dying. Zarathos fought with Centurious, and used the last of his strength to split the crystal in two, releasing all of the spirits within.
Zarathos continued to fight against Centurious, until finally they entered the limbo soul dimension contained within the crystal. The crystal reformed itself, trapping both beings inside of it, seemingly for all eternity. The earth suddenly split open, and the crystal tumbled into its depths.
