"They're creatures of impulse. Interested only in violence and pain. Smokey is no different. But he's more sophisticated about it. He grows bored with his victims more quickly, when they can no longer react to what he's doing... or if they enjoy it, like fellow Crossed. He wants prey that will scream."

Notes & Trivia[]

  • This series is suggested for mature readers.
  • This issue is UPC barcode number 820023007691 29011.
  • This is the first appearance of all characters.
  • "Smokey" is one of the few members of the Crossed to be identified by name. It is not his real name, but rather a name given to him by Oliver to reflect his former vocation as a firefighter.
  • The group engages in a tactic to smear the blood of the dead upon their body and imitate the cruciform facial rash so that they can blend in with the Crossed. The logic behind this act is the notion that the Crossed rarely attack those who are already infected. A similar tactic was explored in The Walking Dead comic book series. In The Walking Dead #4, the characters of Rick Grimes and Glenn smear zombie guts across their body to mask their "living" scent, so that zombies would not attack them.
