A cricket bat is a piece of sporting equipment used in the English athletic game of cricket. It is similar in shape to a baseball bat, but is flat, whereas a baseball bat is cylindrical. In addition to its use in the sport of cricket, a cricket bat may also come in handy as an ideal weapon.
Casey Jones of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fame uses a wide variety of sports equipment in his crime-fighting endeavors. In the 1990 live-action film version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Casey brandished a cricket bat when he first encountered Raphael. Raphael scoffed at his choice of weapon, but Casey showed him the effectiveness of such a tool by upper-cutting the turtle with the bat, sending him flying back several yards.
In the 2004 zombie/comedy farce Shaun of the Dead, under-appreciated electronics store supervisor Shaun picked up a cricket bat in order to fight off zombies. He actually used many different items as records, including vinyl records, but imagery of Shaun wielding the cricket bat has become synonymous with his character.
