The Gill Man

The Creature from the Black Lagoon, also referred to as the Gill-Man, Bestie and sometimes just "the Creature", is a fictional monster featured in the Creature from the Black Lagoon film series by Universal Pictures. It was the eponymous antagonist from the aptly titled 1954 movie Creature from the Black Lagoon as well as it's 1955 sequel, Revenge of the Creature and the poorly received third film, The Creature Walks Among Us in 1956. The Creature from the Black Lagoon is presented as a tall, bipedal amphibious fish-man who hails from the Devonian era and lives in a lagoon located in South America. The creature stands well over 6'5" tall, has large clawed hands and feet and sweeping gills on the sides of it's face. Several actors have portrayed the monster over the course of the three films, including Ben Chapman in the first movie, Tom Hennesy in Revenge of the Creature and Don Megowan in The Creature Walks Among Us. These actors have portrayed the monster in the land scenes only. For the underwater scenes, the creature was played by diver and cave explorer Ricou Browning in all three films.
