The Crawford Street Mansion is a fictional residence featured in the WB Network television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It first appeared in the nineteenth episode of season two, "I Only Have Eyes for You". It also made repeated appearances throughout season three of the series.

History[]

The Crawford Street Mansion was an old, empty castle-like residence located on Crawford Street in the city of Sunnydale, California. In the late 1990s, it became the base of operations for a nest of vampires who were occasionally referred to as the Whirlwind. This included Angelus, Spike, and Drusilla. They started inhabiting the mansion during a period when Angelus' soul had been removed, and he had reverted to his previous evil ways.

Under Angelus' leadership, the group acquired a monolithic stone block containing the power of an ancient demon known as Acathla. After stealing it from the Sunnydale Museum of Natural History, they brought it back to the mansion, where Angel attempted to open a portal to Hell, which threatened to swallow... well... pretty much everything. Even Spike found this to be too extreme, and actually formed a tenuous alliance with Angelus' former lover, Buffy Summers, to stop him. This resulted in a pitched battle between Buffy and Angel wherein Angel was cast into the portal created by unleashing Acathla's power. [1] [2]

Months later, Angel was resurrected, and now had his soul intact - eschewing all of the murderous tendencies that had dominated him earlier. Alone, he took up residence in the Crawford Street Mansion again. He remained there for several months before eventually relocating to Los Angeles, California.
