Coaxium is a fictional element featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. It first appeared in the 2018 feature film Solo: A Star Wars Story and played a major role in the film's plot.

Coaxium is a type of hyperfuel used on space vessels. It can be mined on the planet Kessel. Unrefined coaxium is considered extremely unstable, and it has a high value on the black market. In 13 BBY, a young scrumrat named Han stole some coaxium, which he was supposed to deliver to Lady Proxima, but actually used it to bribe his way past Imperial guards at the Coronet Spaceport on Corellia.

In 10 BBY, crime lord Dryden Vos hired Tobias Beckett and his crew to steal a high volume of coaxium from the conveyex transport on Vandor. Han, now using the surname, Solo, became a member of Beckett's crew during this job. The mission went awry however, and the lost the coaxium.

In order to compensate Dryden Vos for the loss, the group agreed to procure unrefined coaxium from Kessel. The mission proved extremely dangerous and they had to resort using the coaxium in order to boost the thrust of the ship they were on, the Millennium Falcon, in order to escape the Maw gravity well near Kessel.

Returning to Dryden Vos' floating yacht, Han Solo and Tobias Beckett ended up double-crossing one-another. Beckett tried to steal the coaxium, but Han killed Beckett, and gave the remaining coaxium to a band of freedom fighters called the Cloud Riders.
