Tales from the Crypt[]
Clyde was a Cajun criminal who had assaulted and accidentally murdered a man named Chappie Hardy at a Circle K. On the run from a pursuing sheriff, Clyde took refuge in a dilapidated plantation house. The owner of the house was an elderly woman named Lillian. Lilian gave him sanctuary, but Clyde was short on gratitude. She told him that he could stay at the house so long as he remained downstairs. She went upstairs to her room, but emerged later on the landing as a much younger woman. She revealed that the house was cursed. If she descended the staircase, she would grow old, but if Clyde ascended the stairs, he too would grow old. The two met at the halfway point, where they could both maintain their youth. Attracted to one another, they pledged to remain on the stairs forever so they could be together. The sheriff came to the house looking for Clyde, so Lilian told him to go to the top of the stairs. As an old man, the sheriff would never recognize him. Clyde did as instructed while Lilian went downstairs and addressed the sheriff as an old woman. When Clyde found that the sheriff intended on letting his dog snoop around the house, he panicked ascended into the attic. He grew so old that his body could no longer support him and he collapsed. After the sheriff had left, Lilian raced upstairs, but as the curse worked on her in the reverse, she emerged in the attic as an infant. It is believed that Clyde eventually crawled back downstairs to restore his youth, and then waited for Lilian to grow enough so that she could descend the cursed steps on her own so they could be together for all eternity.
