Clifton Shallot, aka the Vulture, is a fictional comic book character and a supervillain featured in the Spider-Man mutlimedia franchise. He appeared in issues #127-128 of the first Amazing Spider-Man comic book series.

Biography[]

Clifton Shallot was a scientist and a professor at Empire State University. He had been working on an experiment in biogenetic mutation with a lab assistant named Christine Murrow. The experiment transformed his body into a likeness of that of Adrian Toomes - the supervillain known as the Vulture. Unlike Toomes however, Shallot developed actual superhuman abilities including sharpened teeth and razor-sharp talon claws. He donned a green costume and became the new Vulture. Fearing that Christine would expose his secret, he sought to kill her, but instead murdered Christine's roomate Gloria Jenkins.

Shallot believed that Toomes' nemesis, Spider-Man, had witnessed the murder and waited to ambush him. During their initial encounter, Spider-Man did not realize that this was a completely different Vulture than the one he had fought in the past. While swapping blows atop the roof of a building, Spider-Man lunged at Shallot, but the Vulture evaded his attack and Spider-Man went tumbling into an alley, allowing him enough time to escape.

The following morning, the Vulture spied Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson and Flash Thompson driving near Empire State University. For reaons that remain unclear, he swooped down and snatched Mary Jane, flying her off high into the sky. Pete sneaked away to change into Spider-Man and managed to rescue Mary Jane before the Vulture could drop her to her doom. The two fought one another again inside the halls of ESU. This time Spider-Man began to notice certain oddities about the Vulture's physiology, like his ability to rend through Spider-Man's webbing. The Vulture took off into the sky, but Spider-Man held fast, following up above the city skyline. The Vulture managed to shake him off, leaving Spidey plummeting towards what could have been certain doom. (ASM 127)
