Claudia Black is an Australian film and television actress born in Sydney, New South Wales on October 11th, 1972. She is best known for her work on two popular science fiction television series, Farscape and Stargate SG-1. On Farscape, Claudia played the role of Aeryn Sun a former military officer called a Peacekeeper who finds herself forced to join a group of refugees aboard a living bioship called Moya. She appeared in all 88 episodes of the series. In addition to playing Aeryn Sun, Claudia also played the role of Chiana in an altered dream sequence episode as well as a character named Doctor Batina Fairchild. Claudia appeared in the spin-off miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars and also provided the voice for her character in the Farscape: The Game video game.
Following the cancellation of Farscape in 2003, Claudia "starbursted" over to another popular sci-fi franchise, Stargate. Beginning in 2004, she played Vala Mal Doran, a recurring guest star character who became involved in a bizarre romantic relationship with series regular Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks). With season 10 of the show, Claudia became a series regular and remained with the show until its cancellation in 2007. Black reprised the role of Vala Mal Doran in two Stargate spin-off films, Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.
Claudia's sci-fi film work however began much earlier. Her first role in a sci-fi feature film was the 2000 futuristic action movie Pitch Black starring Vin Diesel. Claudia played a character named Sharon "Shazza" Montgomery.
