Claire de Sangre is a fictional psychic and a supporting character featured in the Hammer Horror movie series. Played by actress Maggie Kimberley, she appeared in the 1967 feature film The Mummy's Shroud.
Biography[]
Claire de Sangre was a clairvoyant who worked as a linguist for archaeologist Sir Basil Walden. In 1920, Claire was part of a small expedition excavating ruins near the Rock of Death in search of the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey. Claire had a precognitive vision that their porters would abandon them. her prediction came true as a week later, the expedition was left without any laborers.
A large sandstorm forced Sir Basil and the others to remain inside their tents. Claire had another vision, in which she indicated that they would in fact survive the storm, and find the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey. However, these events would lead to subsequent happenings in which not everyone from the expedition would survive.
The group found the resting place of the young Prince, Kah-to-Bey, despite the warning of a radical Muslim named Hasmid Ali. They brought the body and the Sacred Shroud that covered him back to the Restoration House in Mezzara. Claire's cryptic warning began to manifest, as Hasmid Ali invoked a ritual that awakened the mummy of a slave named Prem. Everyone who was present in the tomb that day, including Claire, was marked for death.
The mummy Prem began killing off members of the expedition one by one. By the end, the only ones left were Claire and an Egyptologist named Paul Preston. Prem attempted to kill Paul with an axe, but Claire read an ancient death rite that reduced the mummy to dust. [2]
