Christian Rainier's whistle is a fictional item featured in the Insidious film series. It appeared in the 2018 feature film Insidious: The Last Key, which is the fourth and final installment in the series.

Description[]

This item was a simple metal whistle that hung on a lanyard. Considered a wind instrument, you blow into one hole and a loud noise comes out the other hole.

History[]

In 1953, when Christian Rainier was only six-years-old, he was very afraid of the ghosts that haunted his family home at 414 Appletree Road. To soothe his fears, his mother Audrey gave him a toy whistle and told him that whenever he felt scared, he should blow the whistle, and she would come running. Being a child, Christian lost the whistle almost immediately, which sucks for him, as the ghost of a child had manifested in the room he shared with his sister Elise that very night.

Decades later in 2010, an elderly Elise Rainier returned to her childhood home to investigate reports of a haunting. She found Christian's whistle underneath their old bunk bed (amazingly, the furnishings in the house remained intact all those years later). She took a photograph of it to give to Christian.

The ghost of a woman named Anna - a victim of Elise's late serial killer father, Gerald Rainier, stole the whistle and used it to help guide Elise to the location of Mara Jennings. Mara was chained up in the basement of the house - a prisoner of its current occupant, Ted Garza. With Anna's help, Elise and her partners Steven "Specs" Fisher and Tucker Croft were able to rescue Mara and stop Garza.

The whistle also came into play when Elise was trapped in the other-dimensional space that she called The Further. When Elise was attacked by the Keyface demon, she blew the whistle, which summoned the ghost of her mother. Audrey protected Elise and banished the demon to another part of The Further. After returning to the corporeal world, Elise returned Christian's whistle to him.
