Biography[]
Christian Rainier was born in Five Keys, New Mexico in 1947. He was the second child of Gerald Rainier - a prison guard, and Audrey Rainier - a housewife. He had an older sister named Elise Rainier, who was "gifted" with the ability to perceive and communicate with ghosts.
In 1953, when Christian was six-years-old, he was terrified of his sister's power, and the knowledge that ghosts existed in their house. His mother gave him a steel whistle, and told him that whenever he felt scared, he could blow the whistle and she would come running. That same night, the children had a spectral visitation and Christian lost the whistle almost immediately.
Their father, Gerald Rainier, was known to be an abusive man. He visited most of his aggression onto Elise and would viciously beat her with a cane, every time she spoke about seeing ghosts. When Elise was sixteen-years-old, she saw what she believed to be a ghost woman inside the basement fallout shelter of their home. In truth, this was actually a woman named Anna whom Gerald kept locked up downstairs. After suffering another beating, Elise left home. Christian never forgave her for abandoning him, and leaving him in the care of their abusive father.
As the years wore on, Christian grew up and had a family of his own. He had two daughters named Imogen and Melissa. By the year 2010, Imogen and Melissa were both young women. Christian was unaware that Imogen had inherited her aunt's gift for seeing ghosts.
It was at this time that Elise walked back into his life. Christian continued to resent her for leaving him when they were children and wanted nothing to do with her. Elise was investigating new disturbances that had been occurring at their childhood residence at 414 Appletree Road. She found Christian's special key, which became very useful after both of his daughters were attacked by entities from The Further.
Melissa was attacked directly. She was taken to the hospital and Christian remained at her bedside while Elise and Imogen ventured into The Further to confront the demon. They both survived their experience and were able to dispel the KeyDemon with some help from the ghost of Christian and Elise's mother, Audrey. [1]
Melissa recovered, and Christian reconciled with his estranged sister. Unfortunately, he would not have a lot of time to spend with her. Immediately following the New Mexico affair, Elise was involved in a case involving a young boy named Dalton Lambert. Though she succeeded in rescuing Dalton from The Further, it came at the cost of her own life as she was murdered by Josh Lambert, who had been possessed by an entity known as the Bride in Black. [2]
