Biography[]
Charlie O'Casey had been hired by Garbiel Trulaine to captain his luxury liner, The Michele. Many years ago, Garbiel took the ship out in the North Atlantic to host a lavish party for all of his wealthy, socialite friends. Garbiel had unwittingly invited the vampire lord Dracula to attend the function as a special guest. Dracula began scheming to take control of the vessel and enslave the passengers. To this end, he broke into the wheelhouse and incapacitated Captain O'Casey so he could gain control of the ship. As part of his contingency plan should he fail, he had his servant Clifton Graves rig the ship to explode. The vampire hunter known as Blade boarded the Michele and fought Dracula off. He was unable to prevent the ship from exploding however, though he did manage to rescue many of the passengers. However, all signs seem to indicate that Captain O'Casey did not survive his encounter with Dracula.
Abilities[]
Powers[]
- None: Charlie O'Casey is by all accounts a normal human being with no superhuman abilities to speak of.
Skills[]
- Seamanship: Charlie O'Casey spent his entire life at sea, so much so, that it has been often wondered if he had ever been on dry land. As such, he was an expert in the operation of sea vessels, navigation and maritime law.
- Swimming: Though not demonstrated in any known source, presumably, Charlie O'Casey was an expert swimmer given his lifestyle and chosen vocation.
Weaknesses[]
- Advanced age: Well, Charlie was kinda old, so maybe his sense of judgment and reaction time wasn't quite what it used to be. His his physical health prevented him from being able to put up an effective front against the likes of Dracula. In other words, he zigged when he should have zagged.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Charlie O'Casey was created by writer Marv Wolfman, artist Gene Colan and inker Jack Abel.
- The final fate of Charlie O'Casey is unknown. While there is no documentation of anything untoward ever happening to him, it is possible that he may have passed away from natural causes in the years following the incident aboard The Michele. By his own credo, Captain O'Casey swore that he would eventually die "at sea".
