Charles Delaware Tate is a recurring character featured in the daytime Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, which aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. The character was played by actor Roger Davis and introduced in episode 804. He made twenty-nin appearances in the series in total.
Biography[]
Charles Delaware Tate was a poor and struggling artist who operated out of a studio on the coastline of Collinsport, Maine in the latter half of the 19th century. At some point during his career, Tate met and entered into a bargain with a warlock named Count Andreas Petofi. Through Petofi, Tate enjoyed new wealth and fame and began associating with the societal elite. As with everything however, Tate's dealings with Petofi came at a price.
Petofi petitioned Tate to paint the portrait of Quentin Collins, but did not give him any indication as to why he wanted this. Tate did as instructed, but as he fell deeper and deeper into Petofi's web, he began to regret some of the decisions he had made. Without having seen the man for quite some time, Charles began to grow irritated. He addressed Petofi's lieutenant, Aristede, and demanded an audience with him, but Aristede dismissed him, reminding Tate that his bargaining posture disappeared the day he bartered his soul to Count Petofi.
