A chalice is a fancy sort of a cup. The cup section is attached to a long stem that terminates to a stable base. It is similar in form and function to a goblet, but its utilization may differ depending upon its purpose. Chalice's are not exactly used for casual drinking, but are ofttimes employed for ceremonial purposes such as Catholic mass or other liturgical functions. More nefarious practices, such as those used in Satanic rituals, may also use chalices or goblets for the collecting of blood in human or animal sacrifice rituals. Some traditions may identify the Holy Grail as a chalice, though others may regard it as just a simple cup.
