Centaurians are a fictional alien race featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy line of titles and first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 in January, 1969.
Description[]
Centaurians are a humanoid alien race that hail from the planet Centauri-IV in the Beta-Centauri star system. They are characterized by their blue skin, pointed ears as well as a thin, red fin that runs from the base of their spine across the top of their cranium. Centaurians from Centauri-IV are genetic cousins to the Alpha Centaurians from Alpha Centauri and the Centurii from Proxima Centauri. The man known as Yondu Udonta is a member of the Centaurian race.
Representatives[]
- Photon
- Photon was a female member of the Centaurian race who belonged to a tribe that worshipped the god known as Anthos. Photon was born a mutant, which was seen as an aberation by her people, who came to regard her as a "kavkov", or demon. Photon's mother fled with her child into the forest to escape persecution, but died of illness soon after. Photon was rescued by a being known as Interface, who carried the legendary shield of Earth hero Captain America.
- Yondu Udonta
- Yondu Udonta was a male member of the Centaurian race, who belonged to the more primitive Zatoan tribe, where he was a hunter. When the Badoon invaded Centauri-IV, Yondu met with the time-displaced Earth mutant Vance Astro who helped him escape from the massacre of the Zatoan tribe at the hands of the Badoon. Yondu met with other aliens who had likewise belonged to races driven to near extinction by the Badoon and became a member of the refugee freedom fighter group, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Equipment[]
- Kospah: The Kospah are ceremonial earrings worn by members of the Centaurian race. They are exchanged at the Time of Joining to complete the Circle of Life. The custom is similar to how wedding bands are exchanged in Christian weddings on Earth. Yondu Udonta wore a set of Kospah, but later questioned why he did so, as he did not believe it was possible to repopulate his beleaguered planet. [1]
