Celestials are a fictional race of beings featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They first appeared in Eternals #2 in August, 1976. They have also been referenced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and appear briefly in flashback in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. The Celestials are one of the oldest and most mysterious races in all of creation. Billions of years old, the Celestials have referred to as "Space Gods", and may have even been the inspiration behind the concept of Angels. They are giant, colossal beings of immeasurable power who wear striking suits of armor. Their true physicality is as mysterious as their past. While their master agenda may be unclear, the Celestials have taken a direct interest in life on Earth, and play a key role in the evolution of humanity, including the genetic manipulation that produced offshoot races like the Eternals and the Deviants. It is said that the Celestials are also responsible for creating genetic abberations in humanity, giving rise to the birth of mutants.
