Winona Ryder is an American film actress born Winona Laura Horowitz in Winona, Minnesota on October 29th, 1971. Although never one that could be considered a "horror" actress, she has danced around some of the more supernatural elements of the genre. She played weirdo Lydia Deetz in Tim Burton's 1988 comedy Beetlejuice, before going on to play the love interest Kim in another Burton dark fantasy, Edward Scissorhands, starring Johnny Depp. At the time of production, Ryder and Depp began dating. Winona Ryder was originally tapped to play Mary Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather Part III, but dropped out due to exhaustion. Coppola managed to ring her in anyway though when he cast her as the female lead, Mina Murray in his 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Jump ahead to 1997 and Winona found herself playing an "asshole" robot in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Alien Resurrection. Unable to completely get away from creepy-ass Tim Burton, Winona was dragged back into his twisted world to perform the voice of Elsa Van Helsing in Burton's comical animated fantasy Frankenweenie.
