Terry Nation was a Welsh television and radio screenwriter born in Llandaff, Wales on August 8th, 1930. He got his start in the entertainment industry writing radio scripts in the 1950s for comedy sketch routines for Associated London Scripts. He eventually branched into television and began his career in sci-fi writing the "Imposter" episode for Out of This World. He wrote two more episodes for the series, "Botany Bay" and "Immigrant" and eventually moved on to other projects such as The Baron, The Saint and The Champions. Nation is best known however for his contributions to the long-running successful BBC television series Doctor Who. Beginning with episode five, entitled "The Dead Planet", Terry Nation wrote a total of seventy episodes of the series. In addition to crafting memorable stories, he is also responsible for the creation of one of the Doctor's most enduring and popular adversaries, the Daleks. Terry Nation was also one of the guiding forces behind the development of the TV series Blake's 7, which ran from 1978 to 1981. Nation was credited in all fifty-two episodes of the series.
