Stephen Spielberg is an Academy-award winning film director and producer and considered one of the most influential and pioneering film makers of all time.
History[]
Steven Allan Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 18th, 1946 to Arnold Spielberg and Leah Adler. He attended film school at the University of Southern California School of Theater, Film and Television. Following an unsuccesful period of time at USC, Spielberg transferred to California State University in Long Beach. He later went on to work as an intern at Universal Studios. In 1968 Spielberg shot his first film, a twenty-four minute short called Amblin ', which would later be used as the name of his production company Amblin Entertainment.
Having worked on a few television projects between 1969 and 1971, Spielberg's theatrical debut as a director was the 1974 crime-drama The Sugarland Express. However, it would be another year before Spielberg would craft a film that would inevitably become the shining mark of his career. In 1975, Spielberg directed the horror film Jaws, which quickly cemented his role as a film director and a commercial commodity. Jaws became the first of what would come to be known as the "Summer Blockbuster" movie. Spielberg's first foray into science fiction was the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind starring Richard Dreyfuss (who Spielberg also cast in Jaws). The film became a critical success and Spielberg was nominated for Best Director for Close Encounters at the 1978 Academy Awards. Although he didn't win the Best Director nomination, the film did win the category for Best Cinematography.
In 2011, Spielberg and his company DreamWorks Television began production on the TNT television series Falling Skies.
