Robert Urich was an American film and television actor born in Toronto, Ohio on December 19th, 1946. Though he has appeared in numerous movies and TV programs, his only contribution to the sci-fi genre was playing a character named Jason in the 1984 comedy film Ice Pirates. The film was written and directed by Stewart Raffill and included co-stars Mary Crosby, Michael D. Roberts, Angelica Huston, John Matuzszak, Ron Perlman and John Carradine.
Robert Urich passed away from cancer at the age of 55 in Thousand Oaks, California on April 16th, 2002.

- Robert Urich's co-star from Spenser: For Hire was Avery Brooks who played the character of Hawk. Brooks went on to become a sci-fi icon playing the role of Commander Benjamin Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
- Was married to Piranha star Heather Menzies from 1975 up until his death.
- To prepare for his role of Dan Tanna in Vega$ (1978), he packed on 40 pounds of muscles. His weight boosted from a skinny 180 pounds to a solid, muscular 220 pounds.
- He almost didn't get the part of Dan Tanna in Vega$ (1978), because producers thought he was too boyish and looked way too young. All the other men up for the role looked and acted like men, but he looked and behaved like a young boy.
