Ricou Browning is a deep sea diver, underwater cinematographer, underwater stunt coordinator and actor. He was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on February 16th, 1930. Ricou Browning is best known for his work on the 1950s film series Creature from the Black Lagoon, where he played the role of the eponymous Creature, or Gill Man in all of the underwater scenes in all three films. Ricou Browning passed away in Southwest Ranches, Florida on February 27th, 2023 at the age of 93.
Ricou Browning was born in Fort Pierce, but grew up in Jensen Beach, Florida.
It is said that Ricou Browning could hold his breath underwater for up to five minutes, which is quite an accomplishment since he was also known as a 5-pack a day smoker.
Ricou Browning has attended the Spooky Empire horror convention in Orlando, Florida as a media guest several years in a row including 2009, 2010 and 2011. He has also attended the FX conventions and MegaCon.

Although he will always be known best for his work on Creature from the Black Lagoon, Ricou is also known for his contributions to the softer side of marine adventure. He created the 1960s TV series Flipper, and even directed thirty-seven episodes of the show.
