Nicholas Meyer is an American film director and screenwriter. He was born in New York City, New York on December 24th, 1945. His first professional work was writing the screenplay for the campy 1973 film Invasion of the Bee Girls. Meyer made his directorial debut in 1979 with Time After Time, which chronicled the adventures of a time-traveling H.G. Wells who pursues the notorious Jack the Ripper across time into the modern era. In 1982, Meyer earned himself a place in Star Trek fandom with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which is considered by many fans to be the best of the Star Trek film series. Meyer also co-wrote some of the plot elements of the film though he was uncredited in this regard. In 1986, he co-wrote the third sequel to the series, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. His last work on the franchise was directing 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. All of Meyers Star Trek films are often considered the favorites among fans. A running joke throughout the Star Trek fan community is that the quality of the films can be gauged based upon numerical placement. All of the even-numbered films are considered good, while the odd-numbered films are considered to be of lower quality. The joke was even referenced in an episode of the geeky sitcom series The Big Bang Theory.
