Len Wiseman is an American film director, producer and screenwriter born in Fremont, California on March 4th, 1973. He is best known as the driving force behind the Underworld film series. He wrote and directed the first film in the series, Underworld during which, he became engaged to leading actress Kate Beckinsale. Beckinsale and Wiseman were married on May 9th, 2004.
Career[]
Len began his career as a property assistant on various science fiction films. His first job in this capacity was on the 1994 movie Stargate, which went on to spawn three regular television spin-offs as well as a short-lived animated series. In 1996 Len worked on the summer blockbuster film Independence Day, which was directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Emmerich and Dean Devlin - the same team that produced Stargate.
In 1997 he worked on the film adaptation of the Marvel Comics comic book series Men in Black starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Wiseman worked on a third Emmerich/Devlin vehicle in 1998, the Americanized remake of the classic Japanese monster franchise Godzilla.
In 2012, Len Wiseman directed the remake of Total Recall, a film that was first released in 1990 and was directed by Paul Verhoeven. Both films are based on the Philip K. Dick short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale". In Wiseman's film, wife Kate Beckinsale played the female lead, Lori, while the main character Douglas Quaid, was played by Colin Farrell.

In 2006, Len Wiseman directed the first sequel to Underworld titled Underworld: Evolution. Wiseman also served as executive producer and screenwriter on the film as well. For the third film in the franchise, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Len Wiseman worked as a producer and writer. Kate Beckinsale was not fully involved with this installment (though she did make an appearance) and the lead role went to Rhona Mitra. In 2011, Len co-wrote and co-produced the fourth movie in the series, Underworld: Awakening, which was released on January 20th, 2012.
