Jonathan Harris was an American film and television actor as well as a noted voice actor. He was born Jonathan Charasuchin of Russian-Jewish descent in the Bronx, New York City, New York on November 6th, 1914. Harris is best known for playing the role of sniveling weazel Doctor Zachary Smith on the 1960s Irwin Allen sci-fi series Lost in Space. His first work in science fiction was in 1961 when he played a doctor on the "Twenty Two" episode of The Twilight Zone. He also appeared in the season two episode "The Silence", playing a character named George Alfred. From 1965 to 1968, he appeared in Lost in Space. Though credited as a guest star, Harris appeared in 83 aired episodes of the series. He did not however, appear in the original unaired pilot, "No Place to Hide", and was the only member of the main cast from the series absent from the episode (not counting the B9 robot). Harris also appeared in the "Pay the Piper" episode of Land of the Giants, created by Irwin Allen, who was also the showrunner behind Lost in Space. In 1977, Jonathan played Commander Gampu in fifteen episodes of Space Academy. He then went on to provide the voice for the robot Cylon, Lucifer, in nine episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica. In 1988, he provided the voice for James Moriarty in the two-part episode of BraveStarr entitled "Sherlock Holmes in the 23rd Century".

Jonathan Harris passed away in Encino, California on November 3rd, 2002, three days before his 88th birthday.
