2048 is the forty-eighth year of the 21st century. It follows 2047 and precedes 2049. As this is a time era that has yet to take place in the real world, all information regarding this year other than the previously stated is a matter of speculation and/or fiction.
The 2017 animated feature film Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters takes place in the year 2048. By this point in the timeline, humanity has been forced to evacuate Earth due to the results of prolonged monster attacks. After living on a colony world for several decades, they discover that their new home can no longer sustain life.
