The Cat lady is a fictional homeless person and murder victim and a minor character featured in the Terrifier film series. Played by actress Pooya Mohseni, she appeared in the 2016 film Terrifier.
Biography[]
Known only as the Cat Lady, this otherwise unidentified woman appeared to be in her mid-forties and lived in or near a rundown apartment complex in Miles County, New York. She carried around a baby doll, which she named Emily, and identified it as her daughter. Apparently the woman's actual daughter was deceased, owing to her delusional state. The cat lady briefly encountered a young woman named Tara Heyes, who had gone to the building looking to use a restroom.
Shortly thereafter, the cat lady encountered Art the Clown, who had come into her possession of her Emily doll. The cat lady pleaded with Art to return the doll to her, and tried to bond with the silent killer clown, expressing a maternal compassion, and asking him if he had ever known a mother's touch. She began cradling him as Art began sucking his thumb.
Whatever influence the cat lady may or may not have had on Art is unclear, but what is known is that it was not enough to save her life. Art murdered the woman, scalping her, the severing her breasts and part of her mid-section. Art began wearing her scalp as a wig and her breasts as a chest-piece as if pantomiming being a woman.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of the cat lady was created by writer and director Damien Leone.
- Despite being identified as the cat lady in the end-title credits, there were no cats to be found. Perhaps she should have been called "Doll Lady" or "Hope you weren't too attached to the front of your body, 'cuz you won't be for long Lady" instead.
- The cat lady is the fifth canonical murder victim of Art the Clown and the fifth character killed in Terrifier. She is the third female character killed in the film.
- It is known that the Cat lady had a daughter named Emily who is now deceased. The film Terrifier 2 shows a newspaper clipping about a young girl named Emily Crane, who was a victim of Art the Clown and later became the template for the demonic Little pale girl. It is possible that Emily Crane may be the daughter of the cat lady, though this is largely fan theory and has not been supported by the canonical continuity.
- Art's interaction with the cat lady is the first indicator of anything relating to Art's background. Before murdering the woman, he listens to her meanderings about knowing a mother's touch, and sits down and begins sucking his thumb, implying some traumatic childhood experience relating to his mother. Or maybe he was just messing with her, which is just as likely.
- Art the Clown's act of using his victim's body parts to create a pseudo woman suit is similar to the M.O. of Jaime Gumb, aka "Buffalo Bill" from the 1991 thriller Silence of the Lambs.
