- Ruth Deaver sends her grandson Wendell to a shopping mall located in Chester's Mill. This is the main setting from the novel and TV series Under the Dome.
- Reference to Derry is made in this episode. Derry is a town in Maine and the central setting for the novel IT and its various adaptations.
- Multiple references are made to a fire at Juniper Hill Asylum, which claims the lives of fourteen mental patients. A photograph of The Kid is displayed on the news broadcast naming this "John Doe" as an arson suspect.
