- The character of Captain America was created by writer Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby. He was introduced in the pages of Captain America Comics #1, published by Timely Comics in March, 1941.
- This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority.
- This is the first appearance of the Serpent Squad. They will become a recurring foe of Captain America and his allies for many years to come. Their roster will increase in number as well.
- This is the first appearance of Dave Cox. He will become a regular supporting character in the series throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
