History[]
Kang once used a molecule expander to enlarge the shield when it was on Captain America' s back, increasing not only its size, but weight as well. Quicksilver had to scoop Cap out from under it before it became too heavy for him to bare. [1]
Types[]
Wedge shield[]
- First appeared: Captain America Comics 1
Disc shield[]
- First appeared: Captain America Comics 2
The disc shield is the second and most well-known shield wielded by Captain America. It is composed of an Adamantium/Vibranium alloy, which makes it virtually indestructible. Only True Adamantium withstands a chance of denting it, or even scratching it. This is the shield that Captain America used throughout the duration of World War II as well as many of his adventures in the modern era.
Replica shield[]
When the Commission of Superhuman Activities decided that Steve Rogers was no longer a solider they could control, they replaced him with Johnny Walker as the new Captain America. Johnny began his career using a replica of the disc-shaped shield.
Vibranium shield[]
Energy shield[]
Movie shield[]
Minor usage[]
Very often in comics, Cap just has his shield draped over his arm as a matter of course. Sometimes, he does this to strike an impressive visage when he's trying to look all patriotic and whatnot.
Examples
- Avengers West Coast 47 - Cap has his shield on his arm as he runs in response to an alarm.
- Devil's Reign 1 - Cap uses his shield to take down members of a Thunderbolt Unit who had assaulted Miles Morales.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The original wedge-shield that Cap first used in World War II was destroyed by Mister Hyde when he crushed it during an attack on Avengers Mansion.
- Captain America's shield appearances redirects to the "Appearances" section header of this page.
- Trevor Slattery from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a tattoo of Captain America's shield on the back of his neck. In place of the star however, is the "A" symbol for anarchy. [2]
